What's The Deal With Peggy Carter In Avengers: Endgame?

What's The Deal With Peggy Carter In Avengers: Endgame?
Peggy Carter in Agent Carter heading to Disney+

Avengers: Endgame has been said to be a culmination of the MCU thus far, particularly for Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America, and because of this fans are likely expecting to gain some closure for the heroes. (Especially if and as they exit the franchise and hand off Avengers leadership to Captain Marvel). The most recent trailer for the highly-anticipated MCU Phase Three flick highlights these heroes, even giving us nostalgic black-and-white flashbacks to their pasts. Which, yes, even means Peggy Carter was brought into the fold.

The attention to Tony Stark in the Avengers: Endgame trailer was unsurprising since we knew from previous footage he will be sending a heartfelt message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen runs low in space. In the latest look, when it came to the segment devoted to Steve Rogers, his tragic love story with the late Peggy Carter was the focus, even featuring a voiceover from her from Captain America: Winter Soldier saying these words as a flashback of Cap holding up her casket was shown onscreen. Here's the quote in question:

The world hasn’t changed. None of us can go back. All we can do is our best and sometimes the best we can do is to start over.

Peggy told Steve this in another time of uncertainty, but it may resonate with the hero more than ever. Following the events of Infinity War, he is certainly dealing with a longing to go back and save the half of the universe turned to dust thanks to Thanos’ snap. Peggy’s voice is telling Steve he can’t go back, that it’s time to start over. This time around it reads as less of a longing for the past as it does foreshadowing for the future.

In the first trailer for Endgame, the picture of Peggy that Steve Rogers had when he crashed the Hydra bomber back in the ‘40s is shown in a moment in the upcoming film when Cap looks back at it and Black Widow stands beside him, right before the pair discuss their "plan," a plan they hope will work. Why does Peggy have such a prominent focus in setup for Endgame? Will we see her again as Captain America’s story wraps up or is Marvel tugging our heartstrings without the payoff these characters deserve?

Peggy Carter was introduced in 2011’s First Avenger as Steve Rogers’ love interest, but had to leave her behind when he was chilling in some ice for 70 years. In Winter Soldier, Cap gets to visit her in her elder years, when she says those recently referenced lines, again in Age of Ultron when Cap sees an illusion of her and referenced in Civil War when she passes. Peggy is also featured in the opening scene of Ant-Man and on ABC’s Marvel television series Agent Carter and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

She is really important to Cap’s character arc. Peggy symbolizes the life he could have had and lost because of taking up the mantle of Captain America. He’s never quite felt like he could really move forward because the life he wanted was taken from him, which also plays into his story arc with Bucky Barnes. He’s been displaced by time but what if he could go back? The popular theory for Avengers: Endgame is that the Avengers will travel back in time and reverse what’s been done by Thanos, so if that’s possible, a reunion with Peggy would also be.

With Cap always going back to Peggy in his mind, she really is the last loose end for the character to move on and wrap up his eight-year storyline. Since the teasers for the film are taking the time to touch on their tragic story, one would think we haven’t seen the last of Peggy or that she will fact in somehow during Endgame. There are a few ways this could go down.

Time travel through the Quantum Realm is certainly on the table here and depending where the Avengers land, Peggy could be alive in the timeline. A reunion with Peggy back in the ‘40s could also be a favor Ant-Man drums up for Cap after they save the universe. Guys. Just imagine if Steve Rogers’ story ended with him getting to keep that date with Peggy. I would never get over it. The hero certainly deserves a happy ending or a brief moment like this if he’s going to go out, given all he’s been through in the MCU.

Maybe Cap stays in the ‘40s or another point in the past. Then again we’ve all seen Back to the Future and changing things in the past can completely change the future and there would be consequences there. In fact, Peggy Carter is pretty important to the formation of S.H.I.E.L.D., which likely wouldn't be possible if she becomes a '40s era housewife. Plus, considering many have theorized Captain America will die in Avengers: Endgame, maybe self-sacrifice will be the character’s ticket to his love and he’ll have a sequence with her in the Soulworld, as Thanos had with young Gamora at the end of Infinity War.

If Hayley Atwell is in fact returning to the MCU for Endgame, she’s great at playing coy about it -- unlike some other MCU spoiler personalities out there. There has been zero word about her joining the cast on set. Still, almost a year ago she said “I wouldn’t rule it out” when asked if she might return to the franchise. Her comments hint at the possibility, but I’d hate to sound too hopeful when it may not happen. The past could stay in the past as far as Peggy goes. And the nods to Peggy could always be part of that extra footage The Russo Brothers have admitted adding to the trailers.

Marvel could be implementing Cap’s lost love in the set up for Endgame to just get us nostalgic for Cap’s emotional story arc. Peggy could simply be symbolism for all that Cap has lost or to remember the mantra she’s told him. While it’s tempting to manipulate time travel for his personal happiness, that may not really be in Cap’s wheelhouse. He’s pretty idealistic in his decision-making and I doubt he want be a staunch advocator of disrupting the time continuum and such.

There are tons of possibilities for the end of Captain America’s time in the MCU, but we hope it includes Peggy Carter. What do you think? Will she pop up in Avengers: Endgame and how do you think it will happen? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

This Rotten Week: Predicting Hellboy, Little, Missing Link, And After Reviews

This Rotten Week: Predicting Hellboy, Little, Missing Link, And After Reviews
Hellboy (David Harbour) running in Hellboy 2019

So far, April 2019 has been a month of great variety. We had a mix of colorful action, dark horror, and historical drama in the first week, and this time around we have an unlikely superhero, body switching, stop-motion animation, and a YA love affair. Get ready for Hellboy, Little, Missing Link and After.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

When in doubt with a comic book franchise, you reboot the thing. Fourteen years after our hornless, crimson protagonist emerged from the fiery cauldrons of the underworld, we get... well, the same thing happening in this new movie. Hellboy is back to fight evil and navigate a world that doesn't take too kindly to demons patrolling the streets.

The original movies in the franchise, Hellboy (81%) and II (86%) starred Ron Perlman and had Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro as the director. Neither are back for the reboot, which now has David Harbour as Big Red and Neil Marshall (Doomsday - 51%, The Descent - 85%) at the helm. It looks quite a lot like the original movies, right down to the costume. Hell (pun intended), it’s kind of tough to even tell Harbour and Perlman apart here. The new Hellboy looks every bit as fun as the original, but I'm not sure critics will take to it as warmly just because it looks so much like a carbon copy. More than anything else I think that keeps the Tomatometer score a little lower than the originals.

The body switch/body change comedy seems to have been around practically forever. We get multiple looks at this theme each year, and it’s coming back around again this time with Little. A hard-charging and rude corporate executive (Regina Hall) is transformed into a 12-year-old girl (Marsai Martin) overnight. She must then navigate a world in which she’s just a kid, with all of society treating her as such. These movies tend to fall flat in my opinion because the theme is over tread and the jokes remain sophomoric and easy. But I will say, Little does look like it has some laughs in it.

Issa Rae, the star of HBO’s Insecure, gets her first shot at starring in a movie with Little, and the trailer suggests that she's part of a winner. Sure, the jokes aren’t groundbreaking, but the timing looks on, and the leads are all tremendously talented. Director Tina Gordon hasn’t had much critical success in the recent past, helming Peeples (37%) and penning What Men Want (46%), but I think this latest finishes better than both of them.

Missing Link comes from Laika, a stop-motion animation studio that’s brought us huge critical hits like Coraline (90%), ParaNorman (88%) The Boxtrolls (76%), and Kubo And The Two Strings (97%). That’s a heck of a run of success, and Missing Linki looks right in line with their other work. It’s sitting at 85% with 27 reviews posted on the Tomatometer, with critics praising both the visuals and the story.

Laika's latest is mostly a monster-out-of-the-forest buddy comedy about an explorer (Hugh Jackman) who finds a Yeti named Susan (Zach Galifianakis) and tries to acclimate it to the human world while also finding it's ancestors. It looks every bit of the heart-warming and hilarious story for which the animation studio is known. Considering Laika's track record and the early buzz, I think it's safe to say they have another hit on their hands with Missing Link.

As far as I can tell from the trailer, After is mostly about how many different places the protagonist, Tessa (Josephine Langford) and the love interest/bad boy/mystery dude, Hardin (Hero Fiennes Tiffin), can find to cuddle and make out. According to my count, there’s the lake, his car, a bathtub, the patio at a party, and an aquarium. That’s just from the 90 second sneak peek into the movie. Who even knows how many other places they find during the film's full runtime.

Based on the book of the same name that was published in installments online, After follows Tessa as she navigates a love affair with a dude who everyone tells her is trouble. You know how these things work out right? Typically near the bottom of the Tomatometer is how. I can’t imagine critics buying into this at all. It appears geared solely for the unapologetic young adult crowd, and no one else, and that's not a group that includes a ton of professional writers.

I went two for three with my predictions last week, with only Pet Sematary (Predicted: 75% Actual: 61%) missing the mark. While reviews were initially very positive, they progressively got more negative over the course of the week causing the score to drop out of range. It still did remain fresh, however, as most felt it was scary enough, but that the plot misses some crucial elements from the Stephen King classic.

That was a miss, but my guesstimate for Shazam! (Predicted: 92% Actual: 91%) was not. Instead, I was nearly right on the money, and it's another huge win for the DC Extended Universe. This franchise has struggled a bit in the tone department (something Marvel has basically nailed), but its newest films suggest that the folks behind the scenes are starting to figure things out. Critics loved Zachary Levy’s titular character, and the film seemed to hit all the right notes. A kid becoming a superhero basically overnight has to be something that’s fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously. They got it right with Shazam!

Finally, Best Of Enemies (Predicted: 54% Actual: 51%) was another solid prediction. This one was rather easy to seeing falling right in the middle. It didn’t look like it had enough teeth to really wow critics, but was such an interesting story that I couldn’t imagine folks truly hated it.

Next time around we have Breakthrough, Penguins and The Curse Of La Llorona. It’s gonna be a Rotten Week!

Bruce Campbell Is Playing Evil Dead’s Ash Again, But Not How You’d Think

Bruce Campbell Is Playing Evil Dead’s Ash Again, But Not How You’d Think
Ash vs Evil Dead Bruce Campbell proudly stands blood splattered between two companions

Heroes may come and go, but only the most resilient find their way back to the danger. Just ask Bruce Campbell, as his most famous role as the Evil Dead franchise’s Ash Williams is one that’s waxed and waned like our fickle moon. And just when everyone thought he was gone for good, Ash is about to saddle up for action yet again. Only this time, it’s going to be in another realm he’s not unfamiliar with: the world of video games.

Despite Campbell, for the most part, retiring the role of Evil Dead’s Ash Williams after the cancelation of Ash vs. Evil Dead, it looks like he’ll be strapping on the chainsaw again for the multi-platform game, Dead By Daylight. Currently available on PC, Playstation 4, and Xbox One, the concept of the game is very much an Evil Dead inspired affair.

With the objective of the game being that the four survivors in play must repair the required number of emergency generators that will allow for their escape, it’s already terra firma for the man who survived three films, three seasons of his own TV show, and various comic book appearances. The similarities only increase in Dead By Daylight’s gameplay when it’s hindered by the fact that there’s one player hunting those survivors as the killer, whose objective is to clear the board in vicious, bloody fashion. And, you’ll get to play through it all, with the likeness and vocal stylings of Bruce Campbell being fully integrated into the game’s killer engine.

So, yeah, adding Ash Williams as a playable survivor is as good of an idea as when a previous Dead By Dayilght update brought fellow horror legend Laurie Strode to the game. If you’re one of those types that’s liable to want to cross over famous franchises such as Halloween and Evil Dead, this news from Variety just gave you further incentive to go out and buy yourself a copy. Unless you’re a Nintendo Switch owner, in which case you’ll have to wait until this fall. Still, it’s pretty exciting news.

Though he’s had plenty of video game adventures of his own on various console generations, seeing Ash Williams heading to Dead By Daylight so soon after being told we would probably never see or hear from him again has us hopeful. Should this recent offering in a long line of famous franchise themed DLC sell like hotcakes, maybe there’s a possibility that Bruce Campbell could snag an Evil Dead themed game franchise as previously promised; which opens up a pathway for him to rope dear friend and series creator Sam Raimi back in to tell more stories in that particular sandbox. It’s far from a given, but fans can dream, can’t they?

If you’re looking to try out Dead By Daylight’s latest, boomstick toting survivor, and just happen to be at the PAX East convention this weekend, stop by their booth and hail to the king! Otherwise, the DLC featuring Ash Williams will be available on April 2nd.

The Crazy Rich Asians Trailer Is Funny And Heartwarming

The Crazy Rich Asians Trailer Is Funny And Heartwarming

The summer movie season isn't just the time of year when action-oriented blockbusters are thrown on to the big screen for folks to enjoy, There are also plenty of offerings from other genres, including comedy. This year, that includes the Jon M. Chu-helmed Crazy Rich Asians, based off the book of the same name by Kevin Kwan. With the movie only four months away, we finally have our first look at what Crazy Rich Asians will look like thanks to the first trailer, which you can watch below.

Like its source material, Crazy Rich Asians follows the romance between economics professor Rachel Chu and Nick Young, who comes from one of the wealthiest families in the world thanks to their development business in Singapore. His claim in the trailer that he and his family are "comfortable" is the understatement of the year. What started off as a simple relationship morphs into something incredibly more complicated when Nick invites Rachel to meet his family at his best friend's wedding. In addition to the culture clash, Rachel must also deal with Nick's mother, who believes that Rachel isn't good enough for her son. But not to worry, because along with life lessons being passed on, Crazy Rich Asians will be filled with comedic moments and hilarious misunderstandings. To be fair, I might have thought that green liquid was to drink rather than to dip your fingers in, too.

Crazy Rich Asians assembled quite the talented cast, from Constance Wu and Michelle Yeoh to Ken Jeong and Gemma Chan. However, if I had to guess who the movie's breakout character will be, that honor will belong to Awkwafina's Goh Peik Lin, Rachel's best friend who unquestionably has the funniest lines in this trailer. With Awkwafina also appearing in Ocean's 8 this summer, something tells me that 2018 is going to be a big year for her film-wise.

As for the movie itself, this has the potential to be one of the smaller hits in the latter half of this summer movie season, mainly because it feels so different from most of the other romantic comedy fare that's typically screened. Kevin Kwan followed up the Crazy Rich Asians novel with 2015's China Rich Girlfriend and 2017's Rich People Problems, so if the Crazy Rich Asians movie is does well at the box office, then the following two tales could also receive the cinematic treatment in the coming years.

Crazy Rich Asians will be released in theaters on August 17, and if you're interested in learning what other movies are arriving to the silver screen later this year, check out our 2018 release schedule.

Sorry, Sean Astin Doesn’t Think A Goonies Sequel Will Happen

Sorry, Sean Astin Doesn’t Think A Goonies Sequel Will Happen
Jonathan Ke Quan, Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman and Jeff Cohen in The Goonies

Hey, you guuuys! It’s really been almost 35 years since classic adventure film The Goonies was released, and while we’ve heard talk of a sequel through the years, there hasn’t been a whole lot of action about Goonies 2 actually being underway. Now the film’s Mikey, Sean Astin is finally losing a bit of hope that he’ll ever reprise his iconic role due to all the time that has passed. Here’s what he said:

I think we’ve probably passed the threshold for which all of us original cast members are right for doing a sequel.

Sean Astin has been one of the leading flag-flyers for another Goonies for quite some time but now at 48-years-old, he feels the time may have passed for him and the treasure hunting gang to come back for another adventure. He recently told Collider that for 20 years his answers has been an “unequivocal yes” but not anymore. Astin does have hope however for a reboot, with these words:

The audience is so powerful and so devoted to it that I’m absolutely convinced that it will at the very least will be rebooted, which I would be fine with. If it’s not as good as the original Goonies, then okay, who cares, at least it’s out there.

The Lord of the Rings actor said it’s been a project that both Steven Spielberg and Richard Donner have been interested in exploring, but Spielberg just hasn’t found the right “sauce” to jump on it yet. Plus, he's been busy pursuing his various other recent movies. Richard Donner, who directed the original film is almost 90 years old, but no one seems to want to do the project without his involvement.

Sean Astin admitted that he and Corey Feldman, who played Mouth in Goonies actually went to Richard Donner and pitched a three-act treatment to him but his response was “we’re not doing that”. So the chances of a Goonies sequel may be thin, but Sean Astin still hopes one day he’ll at least get a call about being in a cameo for a reboot one day. Goonies never say die!

Otherwise, Sean Astin has been busy recently taking on the realm of television. He’s also guest starred on the final season of The Big Bang Theory and on an upcoming episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine after being one of the “Guardians of the Nine-Nine”. Last year, the comedy was cancelled by Fox and Astin was among a handful of celebrities who rallied against it online including Guillermo del Toro, Mark Hamill, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Seth Meyers.

He was also a fan favorite Bob Newby in Stranger Things 2, which he attributes to scoring his new Netflix family sitcom No Good Nick, which is now available to stream on the platform.

Do you still want to see a Goonies sequel or reboot? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Zachary Levi Praises His Young Shazam! Co-Stars In Heartfelt Post

Zachary Levi Praises His Young Shazam! Co-Stars In Heartfelt Post

It's Captain Marvel's big opening weekend, but don't forget about the other Captain Marvel. Zachary Levi has made it clear he has nothing but support for the MCU movie, but he's also very excited for fans to see his DC movie Shazam! Levi is a funny guy, but he got serious for about 85% of the caption for this photo with his young Shazam! co-stars Asher Angel and Jack Dylan Grazer:

You heard it from the superhero, kids -- dentures don't pay for themselves!

Zachary Levi seems to be having a great time promoting this movie with his young co-stars. They've been doing interviews and promos together, and that promotion will probably kick into high gear in the weeks ahead of Shazam!'s April 5 release.

In the movie, Asher Angel plays young Billy Batson, who is chosen by Djimon Hounsou's wizard to receive superpowers when Billy speaks the sorcerer's name, Shazam. Saying the name transforms Billy into an adult superhero, played by Zachary Levi. Jack Dylan Grazer plays Freddy, Billy's best friend and foster brother. They are the main characters in the movie, with Mark Strong as villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

Shazam! recently screened for critics, and director David F. Sandberg is definitely keeping an eye on the reviews out there. Thankfully the early reviews so far have been very positive, praising the humor, action, and even the family emotion.

Shazam! is in an interesting position. For DC, it's arriving after the record-breaking success of Aquaman. That's not only the top-grossing DCEU movie, it's the top DC movie ever. Shazam! is also closely following Captain Marvel, which has already made close to half a billion in its first week, worldwide. Shazam! is also closely preceding Avengers: Endgame, which is expected to basically print its own money.

Early box office estimates for Shazam! suggest it could make around $50 million over its opening weekend. Could be higher (could be lower). We'll see in less than a month.

But, you know, everyone seems to be rooting for Shazam! I haven't had a chance to see it yet, but it looks like a great time. I fully expect to be as charmed by Zachary Levi's performance as I have been by his social media promotion. If it doesn't turn out that way, I'll be disappointed, but it doesn't seem like it would be the end of the world for anyone involved. They all had a great time making the movie, but the stakes don't seem as heavy and serious as they did for previous films. The whole experience feels light and fun.

Shazam! opens in theaters on April 5, as one of the many major movies opening in 2019. Keep up with all things DCEU in our handy guide.

Upcoming Disney Movies: Full List Of Titles And Release Dates

Upcoming Disney Movies: Full List Of Titles And Release Dates
Will Smith as the genie in Aladdin

Disney has had some of the biggest box office years of any studio in the history of time over the last few years. While the studio only has a handful of films planned for 2019, almost every single one of them is poised to be a major blockbuster. And then, of course, there's everything they have planned after that.

Between all the different studios that Disney owns, and with another having recently joined them, there's a nearly endless stream of movies planned for the rest of this decade. Here is everything currently on the official Disney release calendar, animated, live-action, comic book, and science fiction, even a documentary just to balance things out. This is your one-stop shop for all things Disney, including upcoming Fox projects.. Here's everything that has to yet to be released by the House of Mouse.

Aladdin

Release Date: May 24, 2019

Early looks at Aladdin had a lot of people worried. Whether it was Will Smith's Genie not being blue or the Genie being a little strange looking while being blue, fans of the animated original were less than thrilled. With the release of the first trailer, the fear seems to have largely calmed down. Considering how popular the original movie is, you can be sure Disney has high expectations for this one.

Dark Phoenix

Release Date: June 7, 2019

The X-Men haven't joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe quite yet, but the final movie in the current franchise will technically be released by Disney now that Fox is owned by the Mouse House. This one has seen several delays, making many wonder just how good it will be, but it seems we'll finally find out in June.

Toy Story 4

Release Date: June 21, 2019

Many would consider the first three Toy Story movies one of the finest trilogies in recent memory. The mere idea of a fourth film sends people into cold sweats, and yet, that film will be here soon. The story will see Woody reunited with his old flame Bo Peep as he and new friend Forky try to get back to Bonnie. The film appears to deal with questions of identity and purpose. There may be something left for this franchise to say after all.

Spider-Man: Far From Home (Sony Produced MCU Movie)

Release Date: July 5, 2019

Technically, Spider-Man: Far From Home isn't a Disney movie, but rather a Sony film. However, since it's still part of the marvel Cinematic Universe, and that's all Disney, we're going to include it here. Exactly how Spider-Man will make it from the end of Avengers: Infinity War to here we don't yet know, but however it works, it will see Peter Parker visiting Europe with school friends, where he'll be pressed into service by Nick Fury.

Stuber

Release Date: July 12, 2019

Another of the new "Disney" releases, by virtue of the fact that they own Fox, Stuber is a comedy that will follow Kumail Najiani as an Uber driver who gets caught up in the work of a cop chasing a killer. It looks like a pretty funny movie that will allow Dave Bautista (the cop) to show off his humorous side.

The Lion King

Release Date: July 19, 2019

The original Lion King is still one of the biggest hits Disney Animation has ever had. One can only imagine what will happen when the story returns to the screen via the same CGI/animation style that brought the animal of The Jungle Book to life. Donald Glover will voice Simba, Chiwetel Ejiofor will voice Scar, and James Earl Jones will be back to reprise his role as Mufasa. The last time this movie nearly made a billion dollars at the box office. This time that number might be low.

The Art Of Racing In The Rain

Release Date: August 9, 2019

The Art of Racing in the Rain is a movie based on a book of the same title. It will star This is Us' Milo Ventimiglia as a race car driver but the story will be told from the perspective of the character's dog, Enzo. Enzo believes that if he handles his life properly, he will be reincarnated as a human, and so he learns all he can about being human from his owner. It sounds like a heartwarming story which is right up the ally of Disney, even though this is actually a Fox product. Disney gave Racing this release date and pushed Artemis Fowl into 2020.

Ready Or Not

Release Date: August 23, 2019

Thriller's aren't exactly the genre that one associates with Disney. However, Fox Searchlight will release Ready or Not in August. It will star Samara Weaving as a new bride who gets forced to take part in a terrifying game by her new in-laws. Don't expect to see the actual Disney name anywhere near this one.

Ad Astra

Release Date: September 20, 2019

Originally scheduled for a Memorial Day Weekend release, this one wasn't pulled from that date until late April, but considering it was a Fox project scheduled to go up against Aladdin that certainly wasn't going to happen. Instead, this Brad Pitt science fiction story has been pushed into the fall where it won't conflict with any of the major Disney tentpole projects.

The Woman in the Window

Release Date: October 4, 2019

Another of the existing movies on the Fox slate that Disney just bought, The Woman in the Window stars Amy Adams as a woman who witnesses a crime, but us hesitant to report it as she discovered it wjhile spyinmg on her new neighbors. Amy Adams stars as the witness. Julianne Moore and Gary Oldman co-star as the neighbors. With a cast like that, this one looks like it could be quite strong.

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil

After waiting years for the follow-up to the hit Maleficent Disney has decided not to waste any time. Originally set for a 2020 release, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil has been pushed up to the fall of 2019. It will be the first time we've seen Angelina Jolie in front of the camera in years. If she's as deliciously evil and fun as she was he first time around, this one will have been worth the wait.

Release Date: October 18, 2019

Ford v. Ferrari

Release Date: November 15, 2019

James Mangold directs Matt Damon and Christian Bale as a team tasked with building a brand new Ford automobile that will be capable of beating of the dominant Ferreri car at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France in 1966. An accomplished director? Oscar winning actors? Based on a true story? a November release date? Did Disney just buy an Academy Awards contender from Fox?

Frozen II

Disney is going to be competing with itself for the box office crown this year. While it seems like Avengers: Endgame will be rthe movie to beat, one should not discount the possibility that Frozen II could play spoiler. The first movie is Disney's biggest animated hit ever and the love that many have for that movie still hasn't died down all these years later. The trailer for the sequel looks to take things down a darker path, but if it has even just one song to become the new "Let it Go," that could be all it needs to be another big hit.

Release Date: November 22, 2019

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

Release Date: December 20, 2019

At the end of 2019, a trilogy many of us thought we'd never see will be coming to an end. The third Star Wars trilogy, will finally give a conclusion to the story of Rey, Finn, Poe, and our classic favorites from the original films. The Last Jedi was a movie that split fans. It will be interesting to see if the new film tries to unite them, or continues to carry Star Wars in to new and different places as the franchise continues to grow.

Spies In Disguise

Release Date: December 25, 2019

Will Smith is a super spy who is accidentally transformed into a pigeon. It's not exactly what you'd expect from an animated Disney movie, but this is another Fox project that actually comes from Blue Sky, the animation studio responsible for the Ice Age movies among others. Originally the film was set for September, but Disney has moved the movie to Christmas.

Underwater

Release Date: January 10, 2020

Untitled Kingsman Movie

Release Date: February 14, 2020

The next Kingsman film is set to be an origin story of sorts that is set prior to the events of the existing film by a couple of hundred years. Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes are among those who will have roles in the film. The project was previously being referred to as Kingsman: The Great Game, but the most recent listing for the film from Disney/Fox is leaving it as yet untitled.

Call of the Wild

Release Date: February 21, 2020

It shows just how crowded the release calendar is for Disney after buying Fox that only one week after the new Kingsman movie, the animated Call of the Wold that stars Harrison Ford, Dan Stevens, and Karen Gillan will be released. We haven't seen this one yet, so it's too early to tell how it looks, but it's based on the calssic Jack London novel and has a remarkable cast so far.

Onward

Release Date: March 6, 2020

There's a lot of what we don't know about Onward. The know cast is made up of Tom Holland, Chris Pratt, Octavia Spencer and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, It's being refereed to by Pixar as a "suburban fantasy" film. That's about the extent of what we know. Maybe we'll get a real look at once Toy Story 4 is out.

The newest release calendar from Disney has pushed the movie off yet again. Originally set to release in April of 2018, it's now set to hit screens two years later.

Untitled Marvel

Release Date: May 1, 2020

The first MCU movie of Phase Four is still set for May of 2020, despite that, less than a year before it is set to open, we don't know what movie it is.

Artemis Fowl

Release Date: May 29, 2020

Artemis Fowl is based on a popular book series, but it's not exactly one on the level of Harry Potter. As such, it's hard to gauge how big this one will be. It could be a serious X-factor in the Disney schedule. If it hits as big as most of the movies on this list, it will almost certainly be the birth of a new franchise. If it doesn't it will likely be a footnote on an otherwise impressive box office year. We'll have to wait and see. Originally set for a late summer 2019 release, it's now the Memorial Day weekend release in 2020.

Untitled Pixar Animation

Captain Marvel

While Captain Marvel is the big MCU movie set in between the two-part Avengers finale, it was set in the 1990s, predating most of the franchise. It introduced us to Brie Larson's new intergalactic hero, who promises to be a major part of Avengers: Endgame and beyond. It gave us a young Nick Fury and answered a couple of questions about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while, of course, creating several more questions in the process.

Release Date: March 8, 2019

Dumbo

The first of three big Disney live-action remakes to hit the screen in 2019 was Dumbo. The earliest Disney animated theatrical film to receive the live-action treatment, the story about the flying elephant was spearheaded by Tim Burton and told a significantly different story, which created a collection of human characters around the baby elephant. While many praised the CGI which created the title character, the rest of the film was not viewed as favorably by many.

Release Date: March 29, 2019

Penguins

Release Date: April 12, 2019

Disney's next big release isn't likely to set pre-sale ticket records or smash the box office, but for a studio that has been in the documentary business almost as long as it's been in the animation business, it's nice that the studio still makes movies designed to educate even more than they're designed to entertain. You may not find this one easily at your major multiplex, but there's nothing wrong with seeking it out.

Avengers: Endgame

Release Date: April 26, 2019

It all comes down to this. After 22 films and 11 years the Marvel Cinematic Universe will come to a head with Avengers: Endgame. While the MCU will continue moving forward, we have no idea just what sort of shape it will be in. Who will live? Who will die? We certainly have no idea, and the only way to know for sure is to watch it and find out.
