Yes, John Travolta Shaved His Head, Says Pitbull Had Him Do It

Yes, John Travolta Shaved His Head, Says Pitbull Had Him Do It
Gotti John Travolta scowling in a tuxedo

For someone who’s been known for a head of hair that could make the world swoon, actor John Travolta’s decision to go with a cleanly shaven head came as a bit of a surprise. Sure, he’d previously shaved for a film role, which helped soften the blow a bit, but when he decided to go full-time with the new do, it shocked quite a few folks.

In Travolta’s own words, the shaved head look all came down to one person convincing him that bald was the only way to go. And that person was Mr. 305 himself, Pitbull. The story came from John Travolta himself, who explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live!:

I did a movie called From Paris, With Love where I shaved it. So I got used to it, some people got used to it. It wasn’t a total shock. I became friends with Pitbull, and I loved how it [looked.] All us guys gotta stick together that do this.

In case you were wondering how John Travolta looks with his new bald statement to the world, you can see the evidence for yourself below.

As you can see, not only does Travolta seem extremely comfortable with this look, but it’s not a bad look for him to have in general. Though it’s still hard not to think back to the various hairstyles that John Travolta has flaunted in his decades of acting in Hollywood movies and TV projects.

Who can forget his early career locks in projects like Welcome Back, Kotter, or even his look as Danny Zuko in the film adaptation of the hit musical Grease? Even with shorter, less flowing hair, like in the era of Look Who’s Talking or Face/Off, John Travolta has always had an impressive mane for fans of his to behold. But his new bald look draws an even sharper contrast to those classic looks that we've provided below for a contrast.

So you can forgive those who may have been shocked once he first went bald in From Paris, With Love, back in 2010; but by now the world has had time to adjust. But then again, how can you not get behind this lifestyle change after learning that Pitbull was the one to inspire it?

If Pitbull, a man who is famous for making bald look good, thinks that John Travolta, a man who’s been known for his hair for his whole career, looks good bald; then that’s pretty much all of the approval a person could need in the eyes of the law. You can see Travolta, and his daughter Ella Bleu, talking about this recent adjustment in their appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, with special guest host Lena Waithe, in the video below:

If Pitbull can sway John Travolta into becoming bald, who’s next? For all we know, these two could be the beginning of a hairless super team that’ll take Hollywood by storm. We could be hyping this up for nothing, but if we see Richard Gere taking the bald route in the near future, then you know it’s serious.

John Travolta can be seen acting alongside Ella Bleu in The Poison Rose, which is currently in limited theatrical release; as well as in The Fanatic (previously known as Moose which is slated for release this September.

IT: Chapter 2 Just Showed Its First Footage, And It Was Chilling

IT: Chapter 2 Just Showed Its First Footage, And It Was Chilling
Pennywise Bursts Through the projector screen in IT

We’ve seen a surprising number of record-breaking horror movies come out in recent months, including David Gordon Green’s Halloween and Jordan Peele’s Us, but later this year we will finally get to see the release of what is arguably one of the most anticipated titles we’ve ever seen from the genre. Director Andres Muschietti absolutely blew audiences away in 2017 when he unleashed his adaptation of Stephen King’s IT, and soon he will be ready to take us back to Derry, Maine for IT: Chapter 2.

The film is still a few months away from release, arriving in theaters this fall, but this afternoon we were lucky enough to experience an early dose of its creepy magic. Warner Bros. hosted its annual presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas today, and the big showstopper they saved for the very end was our first look at the upcoming IT sequel. And based on what was shown, there are going to be millions of chills going down millions of spines when audiences everywhere get to see the finished blockbuster later this year.

Rather than being cut as a typical trailer, the IT: Chapter 2 footage instead began with an extended sequence from the film – specifically a moment that any fan of the book will definitely remember. Having returned to her hometown after spending years away, adult Beverly Marsh (now Beverly Rogan and played by Jessica Chastain) makes the decision to return to her childhood home – albeit while filled with intense dread about the possibility of seeing her father again. At first she thinks it’s a real possibility, as the name “Marsh” is still written on the door, but when an elderly woman greets her she realizes that she was mistaken, and that the label actually reads “Kersh.”

After Beverly notices this, she asks about her father, and Mrs. Kersh dourly explains that he passed away – but then kindly invites her to come in, look around, and have a cup of team. After some initial hesitance the lone female member of The Losers Club agrees, and while walking around the place notes that the house is a lot cleaner than when she lived there. While the woman goes to the kitchen to put the kettle on, Bev goes to the bathroom and uncovers a hole in the baseboard, from which she pulls out a familiar postcard. As she turns it over in her hands, she reads it aloud – “Your hair is winter fire; January embers. My heart burns there, too”- and we see a quick flashback to her as a kid (Sophia Lillis) reading the poem while sitting in the bathtub.

As she reads, however, the audiences’ eye is drawn down the hallway behind her, where we see a silhouetted Mrs. Kersh standing still before starting to walk out of sight with her arms flailing wildly.

We see a handful of flies on the glass window as Mrs. Kersh walks into the living room, and she gives Beverly a cup of tea as they sit opposite one another. The polite, grey-haired woman then apologizes to her guest about the heat, saying that you could just die. However, she follows it up with an old saying about Derry: “No one who ever dies here ever really dies.” Her face then basically freezes, as she neither moves nor says anything for a few creep-tastic seconds.

Breaking the silence, Mrs. Kersh asks what it’s like being back in town, and Bev replies that it’s strange – suddenly noticing the nasty chest wound that her host is sporting when the collar of her blouse shifts. Before she can ask a real follow-up, there is a ding from the kitchen that indicates that cookies are done. As she leaves, her guests starts looking at and asking about the photos on the wall. As it turns out, Kersh’s father was an immigrant who came to America to start a new life for himself… and did so by joining the local circus.

As Beverly stares at one particularly creepy photo, things escalate when it’s revealed that Mrs. Kersh is now standing naked – though obscured – in the kitchen. She calls from the room, “I was always daddy’s little girl. What about you? Are you still his little girl, Beverly? ARE YOU?” Hearing the horrifying words of her father come out of the elderly woman’s mouth, Bev quickly becomes frightened, and the situation further escalates as Mrs. Kersh begins an all-out naked sprint towards her.

From there the footage cut to a montage of various clips from IT: Chapter 2, showing off both the members of the young cast we already know (Jeremy Ray Taylor, Sophia Lillis, Finn Wolfhard, Chosen Jacobs, Jack Dylan Grazer, and Wyatt Oleff), as well as the adult members of The Losers Club to whom we’ll be introduced (James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean). Pennywise’s giggle accentuates particular moments up until the very end, when a black screen is cut through my the murderous clown, who lets out a friendly yet sinister, “Hello!”

This was obviously just a taste of what IT: Chapter 2 has to offer, but boy was it wonderfully satisfying. “When you see it” scares are infinitely more powerful and effective than jump scares, and the footage was chock full of them – filling the sequence with tremendous dread. One can only imagine at this point the horrors that will be contained within the full feature.

Hopefully it won’t be too long before we finally get an official trailer for IT: Chapter 2 – one that we can watch over and over again in hopes that it makes our waiting time for the full thing dissolve faster. Right now, though, our anticipation for the blockbuster horror film is somehow even higher than where it was this morning. It probably goes without saying at this point, but September 6, 2019 cannot get here soon enough.

In the meantime, stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for not only more IT: Chapter 2 stories and features, but also plenty more of our coverage out of CinemaCon 2019.

Aladdin Has Screened, See What People Are Saying

Aladdin Has Screened, See What People Are Saying
Will Smith and Mena Massoud in Aladdin

Disney's animated features are some of the most well loved movies ever made. Many of the recent live-action remakes, while not necessarily hitting that level, have been incredibly successful with fans. The second of three remakes hitting theaters this year is Aladdin and while the movie won't be released here for a couple more weeks, the film has screened for some audiences and the first reactions are now hitting social media.

Overall, the response has been largely positive, though there have been a few caveats in that. One of the big questions that had fans worried was the CGI that turned Will Smith into the big blue Genie. It didn't look all that great in the eyes of many and Digital Spy says that while overall Will Smith is great, the CGI doesn't work. Although, that might not be the worst part of the movie. According to them...

A lavish and enjoyable retelling, but not enough of A Whole New World to fully succeed. Mena Massoud/Naomi Scott are great, while Will Smith brings a fun energy to his take on the Genie, even if the CGI lets him down. The less said about Jafar, the better.

Since they don't say anymore, we don't really know what the issue with Jafar is, but clearly the feeling is he doesn't work in some way.

While Digital Spy isn't in love with Will Smith's CGI Genie, they're one of the few responses to the movie that really calls it out. Most of the reactions on social media are complementary of Smith overall. Joe.ie's Rory Cashin seems to agree that the CGI is a weak link, but he thinks that the movie is otherwise so strong that audiences won't care.

Can confirm that the majority of your concerns about Aladdin, especially anything Will Smith-related, will vanish once that first big song kicks in, but my pick for MVP has got to be Billy Magnussen! He might just be a comedy genius in waiting.

The word that Billy Magnussen is a highlight of the film is certainly interesting news. We know he's playing a brand new character named Prince Anders, but beyond that, we don't really know who the character is or how he fits into the story.

From everything that we've seen, this new version of Aladdin is going to follow all the same beats as the animated original. It's even a full musical, in the same way that the Beauty and the Beast remake was. If that film is any indication, Aladdin could be a massive hit.

If Andrew Jones is to be believed, that's even more possible, as he thinks Aladdin is actually one of the better remakes that Disney has produced, even if it is a little on the long side. According to Jones...

So Aladdin is Disney's second-best recent remake, after Pete's Dragon. Proudly a musical fantasy adventure, the jokes are strong, Smith's Genie is a lot of fun, the human leads work well. It's 20 minutes too long, but works a charm for the entire run.

The most stirring praise, however, may come from the BBC's Haroon Rashid, who compares Aladdin to a great Bollywood movie...

I just watched the new Aladdin movie and it is amazing! It was so good that I forgot my roza had opened. Also if Sanjay Leela Bhansali ever made a Disney film, it would be this! I felt like I was watching a cross between Ram Leela/Bajirao Mastani but without people dying.

The early word seems largely good, and a few hiccups in the CGI likely won't dissuade too many fans if everything else about Aladdin works. We'll find out for ourselves when the movie hits theaters May 24.

20 Iconic '90s Movies That Bring On The Nostalgia

20 Iconic '90s Movies That Bring On The Nostalgia
Space Jam Bill Murray and Michael Jordan huddle with the Looney Tunes

2019 marks the last year that will see a wave of 20 year anniversaries to the most beloved films of the 1990s. Over the past decade, the celebrations of nostalgia have been strong for that last decade of the 20th century, and with the movies it produced, there’s no surprise that it’s been as strong as this crop we’ve seen.

The 20 movies we’re about to run down are probably the most memorable of the decade, and one of the most diverse lineups you could ever expect. If you really want to max out the nostalgia factor, feel free to read this on your old PC, running a dial-up modem connection, and popping open a can of Pepsi Twist. But it’s perfectly fine if you proceed on a modern rig, as nostalgia reads true through any screen.

Space Jam

The perfect triangle of ‘90s love came together when they created Space Jam. Nostalgia for the Looney Tunes, admiration of Michael Jordan’s legendary sports career, and a killer hit soundtrack are the building blocks for this favorite of kids who grew up watching it. Throw in some comedic references of the era it was created for, and you’ve got a movie so perfect for its time, it could have been President.

Forrest Gump

It’s starting to look like the ‘90s were the era of nostalgia themselves, as another memorable hit of the decade was director Robert Zemeckis’ Forrest Gump. A movie so heartfelt and bittersweet it made many an audience member teary with emotion, Tom Hanks’ protagonist makes his way through history in a way that made adults fond of their youth, and their children fond of this film. Sometimes life is like a box of chocolates, and when you’re crying over some of the stuff Forrest goes through, chocolate helps.

Titanic

You can hear it, can’t you? The penny whistle melody. The waves on the ocean. Kate Winslet’s voice amazed at the fact that she’s flying. Titanic is already engrained in your memories if you’re reading this list, and you don’t even have to be a child of the ‘90s to have that fate. Between the long lasting scientific debates, the box office records, and even the hit single that Celine Dion provided for the film, director James Cameron’s mammoth epic was the ship of dreams for many who saw it in its initial theatrical run, as well as all who saw it on home video.

Pulp Fiction

If Reservoir Dogs was the warning shot that started Quentin Tarantino’s career, then Pulp Fiction was the full barrage of gunfire that finished the job. With interwoven plots in the same universe, multiple lines of insanely quotable dialogue, and Tarantino’s unique brand of dark gallows humor, audiences latched onto this film almost instantly. We’re betting that golden briefcase Marcellus Wallace was after contained pure box office magic.

The Lion King

Just as Titanic almost instantly sets the scene once its name is invoked, you can practically see the opening of The Lion King once it has been dropped in conversation. A crowning achievement in Disney’s renaissance, it taught kids life lessons about responsibility, entertained them with catchy songs, and probably traumatized a lot of kids with Mufasa’s death due to wildebeest stampede. Some circle of life.

Jurassic Park

People love dinosaurs, and science has proven this fact time and time again. But when Jurassic Park came out in 1993, even the bullish of speculators probably couldn’t guess how big director Steven Spielberg’s dino theme park would become. CGI had its first big success at the movies, and everyone got to see an adventure that was not only 65 million years in the making, but also worth every day of the wait.

The Silence of the Lambs

The biggest thing that audiences tend to forget when talking about The Silence of The Lambs is that Clarice Starling is actually the lead character in the film. That’s not a knock towards Jodie Foster’s portrayal of the hero from Thomas Harris’ best-selling novel, but rather that’s a comment on just how chilling Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of Hannibal Lecter hit home with audiences of the era. Lecter’s still as creepy and brilliant now as he was then, but over time, it’s been easier to see just how amazing Foster’s green, but tenacious FBI agent compliments it.

The Matrix

It began with a cryptic Super Bowl ad, asking one crucial question: “What is The Matrix?” A couple short months later, the answer would be clearer than ever: it was a cultural goldmine. Mixing the influences of anime, kung fu movies, and philsosophy, The Wachowskis set the world on fire with their tale of an epic war between man and machine. They also made a name for themselves as filmmakers who weren’t afraid to get weird with their product, and helped make Keanu Reeves into an action superstar.

The Big Lebowski

Bowling kind of lost its cool for a little while in the ‘90s, with the sport being relegated to something that only dads did. Then along came The Big Lebowski, which introduced The Dude, the man who made it all cool again. A stoner/slacker who took life one moment at a time, and loved to roll some thunder on the lanes, his beloved sport gained some cool points during his caper to untangle himself from the troubles of someone with the same name. So now when you think of bowling, you think of Jeff Bridges slinging a ball down a lane, a White Russian at the ready, with some Creedence in the tape deck. You could do worse if that’s your sport’s image.

The Shawshank Redemption

Some stories feel like they started as fairy tales, but found themselves molded into something adults could take to heart themselves. The Shawshank Redemption is one such story, as Stephen King crafted a world that very much took place in our own reality, but saw Andy Dufrense go through perils not unlike any prince or princess in all of literature. Seeing writer/director Frank Darabont’s classic go from theatrical flop to absolute classic, all thanks to old school video stores, felt as good as watching Andy emerge from the sewers.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day

James Cameron ruled the ‘80s with Terminator and Aliens being his huge efforts in that particular decade, but that wasn’t enough. And before he could even set himself up to rule the world with Titanic, Cameron entered the decade with a sci-fi classic that would forever define him: Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Turning the T-800 into a good guy was only the start, as James Cameron similarly transformed a grim and violent franchise into a meditation on fate, time travel, and personal responsibility. But boy, was it still violent as ever!

Scream

Speaking of reinvention, Wes Craven had a crack at turning a table near and dear to himself when he made Scream. A post-modern slasher film, Craven used his skills as a horror professional, teamed up with writer Kevin Williamson’s hip script, and created some new nightmares for the kids of that era. While Ghostface is a more grounded evil than Freddy Kruger, it’s certainly as memorable, as you could still quiz people about the rules of a horror film and they’d probably be able to answer correctly.

Mrs. Doubtfire

Divorce isn’t an easy subject to discuss in any context, especially when humor and heavy prosthetic makeup are involved. Yet both are key ingredients to just why Mrs. Doubtfire works as a movie, as not only does Robin Williams navigate the laughs with perfect timing, he also works with Sally Field to ground the reality of their failed marriage. It’s funny, but knows when to take itself seriously; much as it’s a dramatic film that knows how to balance the fun with the tears.

Beauty And The Beast

Around the same time The Disney Store started to invade your local mall, Beauty and The Beast made its way into theaters across the world. This tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, was so big of a hit that it landed a nomination for Best Picture, in an era with no Best Animated Film category. And after you saw Belle and her Beast fall in love for the first time, there was the Disney Store, waiting to offer you a pre-order for the film on VHS, and some cute merch you could wear to school the next day.

Clueless

If you ever wanted to study the ‘90s as a cultural era, you basically need to throw Clueless into the fold. The clothes, the slang, and the usage of pop culture to adapt a story as classic as Jane Austen’s Emma are all hallmarks of the decade, and Alicia Silverstone’s Cher is the perfect icon to represent each of those aspects it embodies. Also, if you want proof that Paul Rudd is ageless, watch Clueless right before you see Avengers: Endgame. You’ll start forming your own theories once that’s in the noggin.

Independence Day

Will Smith has seen his share of interesting creatures, and Independence Day was the first time he actually got to whoop some otherworldly ass on the big screen. As part of an all star ensemble that included Jeff Goldblum, and a very young Mae Whitman, he was one of the last lines of defense against invading forces hellbent on ruining our planet. While the entire ensemble had their own memorable moments, it's hard to argue against Smith being an MVP, as this film helped catapult him into box office royalty; as well as started his career in alien relations.

Hocus Pocus

Some movies don't hit automatically, but once they get to VHS, they soar. The Shawshank Redemption saw that sort of fate, and to a certain extent, so did Hocus Pocus. As a tepidly reviewed film in its initial release, the Disney spooktacular would go on to become a Halloween staple for all who remembered growing up with it. This only helped future generations find their way to the antics of the Sanderson Sisters, and the lesson of what happens when you let a virgin light a black flame candle on Halloween. You'd think the fact that it's a black flame would scare people away from even trying to light that special candle.

Ace Ventura: Pet Detective

If it wasn't for the quirky pet detective that Jim Carrey inhabited in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, who knows if his rise to fame would have ever happened? While playing a lot of fun and memorable characters on TV's In Living Color, Carrey really took off once he started palling around with animals, solving crime with Courtney Cox and Tone Loc, and snooped around all of Miami to find a missing mascot. Would he have been a star without the film? We're not sure, and we're al-righty with not finding out that particular cosmic truth.

Seven

Another question that drove moviegoers crazy throughout the decade was “What’s in the box?” Whether it be repeated mockingly, or with serious intent, director David Fincher left the world on a hell of a cliffhanger by the time Seven came to a close. Watching Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman doing their best detective work helped usher in Fincher as a talent to watch out for, but also gave us one of the best mystery stories to be told in such a bleak and grim manner.

Men in Black

Over 20 years ago, Agent J and Agent K defended Earth from the worst scum in the universe, as Men in Black made Will Smith the king of the 4th of July box office for a spell. With a deft hand mixing the tones of comedy and drama into the story of a top secret organization sworn to monitor and fight extraterrestrial activity, and some really good casting at work putting Smith alongside Tommy Lee Jones, Men in Black is a movie that’s so fun to revisit, it’s almost as if you’re watching it for the first time.

And those are the 20 classics that, we feel, bring the most nostalgia to the table. Of course, nostalgia is pretty subjective, and the '90s were so big that there's plenty of films that might feel left out. So if you've got a particular favorite that isn't on our list of the most memory making films of that decade, send 'em our way in the comments below. It's as good a time as any to have a nostalgia party, so don't be shy and share away!

If Marvel Retconned X-Men For The MCU, I Wouldn't Shed A Tear

If Marvel Retconned X-Men For The MCU, I Wouldn't Shed A Tear
X-Men: Apocalypse poster

It's a wild time in the X-Men franchise. Fox's second attempt at a movie centered on Phoenix in due in June, and The New Mutants is presumably coming at some point as well. The larger news, however, is that Disney will soon be getting control of the mutants via the Disney-Fox merger, and there's been endless speculation about how the Marvel Cinematic Universe could incorporate the characters. It's either taking the existing lineup of characters and folding them them in, or scrapping the entire franchise and starting from scratch with a reboot.

Truth be told, if Marvel retconned the X-Men franchise to incorporate it into the MCU, I wouldn't shed a single tear. In fact, it's my preferred strategy for the merger at this stage, as incorporating the current characters in with Phase 4 and beyond would be a big mistake. Why? It comes down to a recent revelation I had after seeing the powdery blue new look that Jennifer Lawrence is sporting in Dark Phoenix:

This particular makeup job is arguably representational of the X-Men franchise at large over the years. It started off as one thing, constantly changed over the years, and has varied drastically in quality. Sometimes the franchise is looking good, like Mystique in X-Men: First Class. Then there's the other times where it's been less than good, and it's more like her latest appearance.

There's been good X-Men films, and there's been horrifically bad ones - and it's a level of inconsistency that we thankfully haven't seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even the Rotten Tomatoes score of Thor: The Dark World is higher than X-Men: The Last Stand, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and X-Men: Apocalypse. It's gotten to a point where, as an audience, we've come to expect the quality of an upcoming film is a dice roll at best, and that's a problem when it comes to merging the brands.

This is particularly true for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is in the process of saying goodbye to several heroes integral to its success throughout the past decade. It will be a big enough task for Marvel Studios to lay new groundwork and attempt to replicate its success over another decade, and adding the currently existing X-Men franchise to canon would make that so much harder. Hard enough, at least, that one has to sit back and wonder if it's really worth doing at all.

Admittedly bringing the X-Men into the Marvel Universe would potentially net the franchise some solid talent. James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Sophie Turner, and Evan Peters would all make for great additions provided they're on board. That's a big if, though, because let's not forget, Dark Phoenix takes place decades before the events going in the contemporary MCU.

So, either Marvel could age up the characters in makeup, which seems unlikely, or they could continue the continuity with a new set of actors, such as the original X-Men cast. The latter doesn't seem likely, though, given the bulk original X-Men's cast is approaching or beyond 50. Plus, let's remember that, no offense to the rest of the cast, the two main people most fans would want to return are now dead in the X-Men timeline. For years many have begged for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine to appear in an Marvel Cinematic Universe feature, but it's just not a realistic dream to hold anymore. Bringing Jackman back to play the character now would create another plot inconsistency in the X-Men timeline, and kind of shit on the emotional weight and awesomeness of Logan - which also saw the death of the other aforementioned beloved hero: Patrick Stewart's Professor X. There was once a time where this was a great dream to have and fight for, but those days are long gone.

The remaining character in the X-Men continuity seemingly worth keeping around is Deadpool. I count myself among those who want to see his integration happen, but also worry that keeping the X-Men out or rebooting the team for the Marvel Cinematic Universe would keep him from ever being included. The hope is that the Merc With The Mouth's nature could help him in this arena. He's pretty far-removed from the franchise as is, and his fourth-wall breaking abilities make it easy enough for him to outwardly address the elephant in the room in a comedic way rather than having to create some elaborate plot to explain the situation.

Beyond the chance to potentially succeed doing something incredibly challenging, there doesn't seem to be much reason for the Marvel Cinematic Universe to absorb the current X-Men continuity. Doing so would only put the burden of its uneven and sometimes incomprehensible story lines into a universe that's been so well constructed, and basically the gold standard for a shared universe. What's so bad about starting fresh and introducing a rebooted batch of mutants that can carry us into the next decade and beyond? This is especially true when Marvel has story lines like Avengers vs. X-Men, which, while polarizing within the comic book world, would still be an absolute blast to see on the big screen. Plus imagine a future Avengers lineup that includes characters like Cyclops or Storm, or even a new Wolverine. Sure, there may never be another actor to play the character as well as Hugh Jackman, but we'll never know until Hollywood tries someone else.

Do you feel the same way, or do you think there is good reason why the X-Men movies franchise should exist as canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? You can feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section, and vote in our poll below. Dark Phoenix is due out in theaters June 7th, and New Mutants will be released August 2nd - and it's possible we'll have a much better idea of what the future holds for the X-Men then. Check out the latest international trailer in the meantime, and read what the director had to say about the film's delay.

Star Wars Had To Reshoot A Scene Because Luke's Last Name Was Still Starkiller

Star Wars Had To Reshoot A Scene Because Luke's Last Name Was Still Starkiller

It's a commonly known piece of trivia that when George Lucas originally wrote Star Wars he named his hero Luke Starkiller, before eventually changing it to Skywalker. However, many may not have realized just how late that name change took place. Mark Hamill recently revealed that the name change took place during production, so late, in fact, that they had to reshoot the scene where Luke introduces himself to Princess Leia as Luke Starkiller.

The fact that the name change to Skywalker from Starkiller took place isn't news, but the fact that the change led to reshoots isn't as widely known. The fact is that the last name Skywalker isn't actually spoken all that much, so the fact that the change took place in the middle of shooting wouldn't have had a major impact on the production. Of course, as one fan points out on Twitter, it also means that there's a potentially large portion of the finished film that Mark Hamill may have shot believing his character was named Luke Starkiller, it's just that the name doesn't come up.

George Lucas says he decided to change the name because it had some unpleasant connotations that he had not expected. Specifically, an association with Charles Manson, as somebody who was a "star killer" so to speak. Starkiller is a great name, but it has a pretty hard edge to it that certainly doesn't feel like Luke as we meet him in the original Star Wars. Skywalker works much better in that regard.

The name Starkiller has not gone unused within the Star Wars universe since 1977. It became the name of the player character in the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed video games, and when those were excised from canon, it was used as the name of the planet-sized Death Star weapon in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

For his part, Mark Hamill admits that he didn't care for the name change at the time. As it turns out, Rian Johnson isn't the first director to do things with Hamill's character that the actor wasn't so sure about.

Today, it's hard to imagine the character being named anything other than Luke Skywalker. It's one of the most popular names in all of pop culture. Still, it's hard to argue that Luke Starkiller sounds like one intergalactic badass. Which name do you prefer? Let us know in the poll below.

Keanu Reeves And Halle Berry Reveal Their Most Challenging John Wick: Chapter 3 Stunts

Keanu Reeves And Halle Berry Reveal Their Most Challenging John Wick: Chapter 3 Stunts
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry walking the desert with two dogs

Watching a movie like John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, you can’t help but be amazed by the buffet of stunts and kills that make the franchise one of the most bone-crunching, knife-throwing, ammo-blazing experiences that could ever hit the big screen. One movie featuring that sort of action is impressive, but three whole films is a testament to knowing your market, and knowing how to make such action come alive in a vibrant way.

Stars Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry definitely know this firsthand, as they’ve trained harder than ever before in order to make John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum one hell of a show for the folks heading to cinemas this weekend. However, with that sort of showmanship comes some pretty challenging work.

Talking to the folks behind John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum during their recent press day, CinemaBlend was able to learn just where the most challenging stunt work came in for various members of the cast. When it came to Keanu Reeves himself, there was one particular spectacle that took some wrangling to get into. Reeves described that feat as follows:

I think the most challenging would be riding the horse, and going off the side of the horse, and then trying to shoot someone. That was probably the most difficult, and probably because of what I had to do, but also what was involved to make it safe. They came up with this contraption that had never been done before, so it took some time to figure out.

Taking into account that John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum continues the franchise that Reeves helped get off of the ground alongside director Chad Stahelski, it’s pretty awesome to learn that this sort of thing isn’t just a rote undertaking for any involved. Understanding how Keanu Reeves approached this latest film, it’s even more impressive a feat to behold, as his gratitude shows in every frame.

In co-star Halle Berry’s case, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum allowed her a chance to take the action chops she already had, and push them even further. This included some pretty hardcore weapons training, getting used to working with trained dog actors, and in the case of one particular stunt, taking on a circle of stunt performers that surrounded her during one of the big fight scenes her character Sofia finds herself wound up in at her branch of The Continental in Morocco.

While speaking with Berry and co-director Chad Stahelski about that scene, the following details emerged:

Berry: I loved working with the dogs, but there’s this one scene that Chad [Stahelski] presented to me on the night of, and I’m in The Riad. I had to handle, I think, maybe nine, ten guys, all at once in a circle. I wasn’t so sure I was going to get through that in one take, and I actually did.

Stahelski: I know. Nailed it within four takes.

You could imagine this, or any meticulously set up fight sequence in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum needing several takes to get nailed down. That’s especially true when you take someone new to the John Wick universe and put them into this particular world of carnage.

Still, four takes is pretty damned impressive for something that involves being surrounded on your own turf, and involving stunt animals in the process.

Perhaps the most grueling story we got involving the stunts in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum is the one that we heard from co-star Mark Dacascos, who plays one of the film’s major antagonists, a sushi chef/assassin named Zero.

Mark Dacascos’ character gets a pretty big fight scene toward the end of the film, in a sort of glass labyrinth that doubles as an office in Winston’s branch of The Continental. As an extended sequence of pain and shattering scenery, it’s a lot of fun to watch. Judging by Mark Dacascos’ own words describing the execution of that scene below, it definitely sounds like he had just as much fun shooting those scenes:

The whole finale fight scene was just one month of stunts! There wasn’t one thing, it was just so many elements. But I have to say working with Chad, who is a skilled martial artist himself, and Keanu, who’s worked so hard to become one, was just a joy. Because, I’ll tell you what, being thrown around by Keanu, he knows what he’s doing. He’s a martial artist, he’s a real martial artist. And it was just an honor and a thrill.

For as hardened as all involved in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum get to look on the silver screen, seeing them talk about achieving such a feat leads to all smiles. Watching the actors talk about the daring feats they’ve professionally pulled off in the name of the John Wick universe is just as rewarding as watching them beat each other, and their opponents, up with those very moves.

You can see it for yourself, as you watch the cast and director of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum talking about these experiences in the flesh, through the clip provided below:

So long as the John Wick series never loses the spark of madness that sees Keanu Reeves, Chad Stahelski, and everyone else they take along for the ride work as hard as they smile, the world will be in a good place. And as evidenced by the results shown in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, it feels like that joy isn’t going away anytime soon. Which is good, because the world can always use an avenging angel of righteous justice on its side.

John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum opens in theaters with early showings tonight, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled here at CinemaBlend for further coverage on John Wick related happenings.

When You Can Book A Reservation For Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

When You Can Book A Reservation For Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
Star Wars; Galaxy's Edge

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is about to become the hottest ticket in town. The new land will be open at Disneyland in just over a month, but if you want to visit it within the first three weeks, you'll need a special reservation. This morning Disney Parks released new information via press prelease about how to get that reservation. While we already knew that guests staying at a Disneyland Resort hotel will get a reservation for the new land automatically, everybody else will want to be ready on the morning of May 2.

Reservations will be available to those not staying at Disneyland Resort hotels beginning at 10:00 AM Pacific Time on May 2. However, the exact process for how to acquire one won't be revealed until two hours earlier, so those looking to grab one will want to be ready at 8:00 AM to get all the important details.

One key piece of information that was revealed today was that you'll need an account on the Disneyland website, so if you don't currently have one and plan to be going after a reservation, you'll want to setup the account soon so you won't have to worry about it later. Since the Disneyland website will likely be a hub of activity as people try to make reservations, you'll absolutely want to be sure you don't have extra steps you'll need to complete. Also, of course, you'll need to buy valid theme park admission to get into the park at all.

Reservations will be needed to get into Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge beginning on opening day, May 31, and will last for about three weeks until June 22. We've known since opening day was announced that reservations would be needed, and that Disneyland hotel reservations would get you one, but it wasn't clear until now just how available reservations would be to locals who don't need hotels or others who maybe couldn't afford to drop the cash in a Disneyland hotel.

If you want to be absolutely sure you get into Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the hotel room route is still an option. While not every Disneyland Resort hotel is still available for every evening, there are still rooms available, including for the night before and the day of Galaxy's Edge opening. Although, with the reservation process now officially confirmed, one wonders how quickly those rooms might fill up.

Early expectations were that people were going to come out of the woodwork when Galaxy's Edge opened and far more people than the park could handle would show up and try to get in. With the announcement of the reservation system it seems that won't be the case, at least not until the reservation period ends. To that end, showing on opening day might actually be the best idea. It seems likely that crowds will be kept to a level that's manageable for Disneyland.

At a certain point, there's only so much you can be prepared for until crowds start showing up and so the first few days or weeks might actually be the least crowded that the land will be for the foreseeable future, at least until the park is sure that everything in the new land is functioning as it should be.

In addition to offering new attractions based on Star Wars, that would be more than enough to bring a lot of people, Galaxy's Edge is offering a level of world immersion entirely new to Disney, if not theme parks entirely.

Star Wars; Galaxy's Edge is set to open at Walt Disney World, at Disney's Hollywood Studios, on August 29.

Why Airlines And Studios Should Allow First Run Movies On Flights

Why Airlines And Studios Should Allow First Run Movies On Flights
Captain Marvel in the airplane 2019

When it comes to flying, there can be a lot to complain about. Leg room is always an issue, the food is subpar at best, and somehow there's never enough room for luggage. For all the complaints one can find with flying on a commercial flight, however, the television and film selections are usually pretty solid. Most new Digital releases can be found on flights, and sometimes you don't always have to pay to see them!

As good as movie options on airlines typically are, they could always be better. In fact, it would really be the best if studios would collaborate with big companies to allow first run movies to play on flights. Like some in-flight services, it could be offered as a luxury to passengers for an added fee. It doesn't seem like it would be all that hard to implement and could be something that could be mutually beneficial to studios and airlines.

Why Is This A Good Idea?

For airlines, the pros behind providing first run films on flights is obvious. Movies may not be the deciding factor in someone's airline choice, although it's more than fair to say the right movie could potentially factor into choosing an airline. For example, if I were choosing a flight the Friday Avengers: Endgame opens and I saw one provider had it available on my flight, I'd likely choose them provided my flight was as long as its runtime. Plus, there's potential for happier customers who are watching first run movies instead of no movies or content they've already caught before.

Of course, there would probably be some on the flight who wouldn't care about the film or might choose a different flight if it were cheaper or had better times, for example. That's unfortunate, but not a deal breaker as airlines already have a system in place for those to pay for additional content. As long as the price for a film is left off of the plane ticket, folks shouldn't complain.

Of course, theater chains might be less pumped, as many are already scrambling to bring audiences back to movie theaters with various ideas. Giving airlines first run rights likely wouldn't sit well with some at first, especially those with theaters already in some airports. Granted, that's an experience only a select few airports offer worldwide, and it's more than fair to say this an arrangement shouldn't hurt the average theater's bottom line.

After all, it's not like someone is going to book a flight cross-country every time a movie they want to see premieres. Additionally, folks flying to and from locations probably aren't planning to go to a theater that day anyway, although I suppose an argument could be made this might inhibit an eventual trip to a theater. With that in mind, perhaps this is why this plan has not happened yet. But I say theater chains should really get involved!

How Theaters Should Get Involved

This is why it's a good thing theaters can get in on this action as well, and make the allure of watching first run movies on flights even more attractive. Sure a new movie on a flight is awesome, but imagine being able to watch the latest and greatest movies during those crushingly long layovers at airports? Suddenly, six hours sitting in a random terminal sounds a lot more bearable.

There are some logistical issues with this of course, seeing as people would be flying in and out of airports at varying times, and choosing any combination of movies to view. The bottom line is that simply building a movie theater to accommodate this experience is impractical, and would be the wrong way to approach this.

With that said, if a theater chain had a row of kiosks available to travelers getting off flights to resume their movie, that would be great. A kiosk prevents multiple people from crowding in (comfortably anyway) to piggy back on one purchased film, and would allow another person a reasonable amount of privacy to relax and enjoy the rest of their film and possibly another while waiting on a connection.

So How Would This Work?

Presumably, a person's progress on a film would be linked to their plane ticket and could be scanned at a kiosk, or they could be given a QR code to photograph with their smartphone to pull the film back up at the airport. Either way, a method like this would be necessary, as buying the rights to view a film twice when the first viewing was interrupted would be something most consumers wouldn't tolerate.

Additionally, a way of tracking one's progress in a film and transferring it would be handy for those with connecting flights. Pausing a film and then being able to seamlessly resume it on the next flight would be remarkably simple, which quite frankly, would be a godsend considering how stressful making a connecting flight can be. Of course, there'd probably be instances where airlines wouldn't honor each others purchases, so this plan isn't full proof.

A third party were to do the legwork on making this a thing. That would at least encourage mass adoption across airlines, and resolve the headache of them having to directly interact with each other. It's a niche market, but surely there's enough demand for one company to do it well and usher in a brave new movie experience? I don't have a business degree, I just have ideas.

I also have a mild anxiety of flying that would be severely lessened by the fact I'd get a chance to see a new movie. As mentioned, the options on flights are sometimes pretty solid, so a move like this would merely be an upgrade to one of the nicest parts of a flying experience. That is, until VR on planes becomes a thing and I can simulate any other type of experience that isn't flying high in the sky.

Readers, would you pay the extra money on a flight for a first run film? Sound off in our poll, and hop down to the comments for any additional thoughts you may have. Stuber Trailer Has Dave Bautista And Kumail Nanjiani On A Funny, Wild Ride

Stuber Trailer Has Dave Bautista And Kumail Nanjiani On A Funny, Wild Ride

While Dave Bautista is an actor clearly physically built for action movies, the guy has also proven that he has real comedic chops. Some of the funniest moments from the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies have Drax at the center, and while he didn't exactly spit out endless zingers in movies like Spectre and Blade Runner 2049, it was really only a matter of time before he took on a big studio comedy. Now we're finally seeing that project in the form of Michael Dowse's Stuber, and what makes things even better is that it's a buddy cop pairing that has him teamed up with the amazing Kumail Nanjiani. Check out the first full trailer for the movie below!

Based on an original screenplay by Tripper Clancy, Stuber centers on an Uber driver named Stu (get it?) who finds himself in a bizarre and dangerous situation when his car is hired by a tough-as-nails cop, Vic, on a mission. Not being the bravest individual, it's not a circumstance that Stu is really prepared for, and things only get worse and worse as the danger escalates.

Interestingly, this has been a rather crazy week for both Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani. In the case of the former, not only is Stuber his second trailer of the week following My Spy, but we also recently got the news that he has joined the cast of Zack Snyder's upcoming Army Of The Dead. As for the latter, we learned just a few days ago that he has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he will be starring opposite Angelina Jolie in Chloe Zhao's The Eternals; plus he was front and center in the first episode of the revamped The Twilight Zone on CBS All Access. Both of these dudes are seeing their careers heat up in a big way right now, and it's exciting that we will be getting to see them in a new comedy together.

What's surprising, though, is that Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani aren't the only big names featured in Stuber - they just happen to be the ones primarily featured in this trailer. Natalie Morales, known for her work on The Grinder and Santa Clarita Diet, briefly appears, but this is a cast that also includes the likes of Karen Gillan, Betty Gilpin, Iko Uwais, Mira Sorvino, and Jimmy Tatro. It's possible that they aren't featured in the footage because their roles might be too spoilery, but no matter what the case is, hopefully it means that there are a lot of surprises in store when the film arrives in theaters.

Stuber just had its world premiere last month at the SXSW Film Festival, and is set up to be one of this summer's big comedies. The film is currently scheduled for release on July 12th, and hopefully between now and then we'll also be treated to a red band trailer.

James McAvoy Injured Himself Fighting Pennywise On The IT Chapter Two Set

James McAvoy Injured Himself Fighting Pennywise On The IT Chapter Two Set

After the huge success of IT last year, people have eagerly anticipated the continuation of the story in IT Chapter 2. The sequel has built up quite the impressive cast which includes James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Hader as the adult versions of the Losers' Club. They'll be going toe-to-toe with Pennywise himself, and unfortunately aren't off to a great start. While filming a fight scene, McAvoy was injured on his thigh. He's totally fine, but the actor shared his injury via social media, and reported that he'd be making a speedy recovery.

Taking place almost 30 years later, IT Chapter 2 finds the Losers' Club all grown up with their nightmare of a childhood behind them. However, signs of Pennywise's return draw them each back to Derry and fulfill the promise they made to each other as children: to kill the clown once and for all. Expect a lot more grit and drama now that the film no longer has children fighting for their lives. And before the movie has even finished filming, there's already been an injury. While filming a fight scene against Pennywise, James McAvoy had a double thigh strain. Because your boy Pennywise fights dirty.

Sharing a picture of, well, his crotch on Instagram, James McAvoy explained that he strained his thighs on set. But it's being taken care of, and he will make a very quick recovery and get right back to clown-killing. The actor obviously didn't reveal any specifics of the scene he was filming, but judging by how dirty he looks in the picture, I'd wager that it was in the sewer system-- a pretty important setting in IT. Pennywise lives in the sewer, and in the novel it served as the location for the climactic ending.

It's good to hear that James McAvoy will be back up and using those thighs, because he has an important role in the sequel. McAvoy is playing the adult Bill Denbrough, the leader of the Losers' Club and whose little brother Georgie was eaten by Pennywise. Bill is a massive figure in the books, and while IT Chapter 2 can always veer away from the source material if it wants, Bill plays an important part in defeating Pennywise.

Other than the cast of players, not much else is known about IT Chapter 2. The movie will release in theaters on September 6, 2019, and stars James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, Andy Bean. They join Bill Skarsgard, who is reprising his role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. To learn more about the horror movie sequel, here's everything we know so far. And for more movies heading to theaters this year, check out our 2018 release guide.
